This year, for Pride Month, we’ve taken a slightly different approach.
In recent years, brands and companies around the world have made it a habit to display colorful Pride-themed logos. Some even rode the wave by releasing products in those same colors. For some, it was a genuine act of support. For others, a questionable form of pinkwashing. But regardless of whether the gesture was sincere or not, problematic or not, its impact was real: it brought visibility and support to LGBTQIA+ communities.
But not this year. Many major companies have chosen not to proudly display those colors. And it wouldn’t be appropriate to speculate on the reasons behind those decisions.
What’s undeniable today is this: LGBTQIA+ communities are under attack, ostracized. Some countries are working hard to roll back their rights. This year, the trans community, more than any other, is bearing the full brunt of these attacks.
We all have LGBTQIA+ people in our lives, both personally and professionally. They are your close colleagues, your friends, your family. Some speak openly. Others stay silent. Out of fear of discrimination, backlash, or rejection.
At Bump.sh, we’re proud to be an inclusive team. We hire people and personalities above all else. And we do our best to make sure everyone feels equally welcome. Even if the comparison might seem a bit clumsy, we believe that APIs and their documentation are also about connection, bringing people and services together across the world.
So this year, we haven’t changed our logo to rainbow colors. Instead, we chose exceptionally to speak up through this blog post. And we’ve chosen to actively support organizations that help LGBTQIA+ individuals, especially those in the trans community. Bump.sh will also match every donation made by a team member to one of these organizations.
Because at a time when some are stepping back, we’ve decided to show our support.
